Safety regulations require an earth continuity bond to be connected to water and gas pipes to prevent them becoming live in an event of an electrical fault.

The main earthing point should be near the meter.To bond the metal services around the house run an earth wire to the mains water pipe.To make the connection to the pipe use a purpose built earth tag,which can be bought in many hardware stores around Ireland..Clamp the earth wire to the pipe below the stopcock.Modern stain and steel sinks should have a tag fitted.Central heating pipes should also be  earthed.
